Hey, Wait A Second

I'm guessing that Leroy has asked Dr. H. Blog M.D. for a second opinion after the doctor informed him he was overweight, hence the doctor's comment. I say guessing because I don't know what actually happened, since the doctor's response does not seem to fit at all as a retort to "I want a second opinion." The confusion and awkwardness is enhanced further by Loretta's giggling at Leroy's misfortune, especially since, as I have pointed out several times lately, their bodies have exactly the same shape.

Leroy Fumbles The Ball

Presumably Dr. H. Blog M.D. is Leroy's primary care physician in Leroy's HMO. Thus Leroy, ever irascible, may be taking a well-aimed potshot at the doctor. With Loretta standing right there, he has blown a golden opportunity to say, "My headaches started when I got married." How often does a chance like that pop up?

Be Thankful He Didn't Prescribe Lifetime.

The hospital is Leroy's second home. This time it's unclear whether sickness or accident put him there. From his strangely named physician's comment, we can deduce either he injured himself throwing objects at the TV screen, or simply got violently ill, in response to the latest performance by the Knicks. The third option is food poisoning from Loretta's cooking, where she has worked out a deal with the doctor to trick Leroy into watching her choice of television entertainment.

Where's Hippocrates When You Need Him?

It never ends for Leroy. Besides having to endure Loretta's constant nagging, he also bears the distinction of being the most sickly and accident prone yet surviving man in Long Island history. This matters naught to Dr. Blog, M.D., or especially to his impertinent receptionist. In addition to prescriptions and diagnoses, not to mention the staggering bill, Leroy can always count on a good measure of abuse during his frequent visits to his doctor's office.

Against That Time, If Ever That Time Come By

Leroy and Loretta both love to dust off those old adages and use them whenever appropriate. Leroy's chance comes today during one of his frequent visits to his physician's office, where he invariably meets with abuse of some kind.

Cure The Disease And Kill The Patient

Leroy doesn't appreciate the charges written on Dr. H. Blog M.D.'s bill, which the doctor presented to Leroy immediately upon the conclusion of his examination and which is tastefully emblazoned with "BILL" in gigantic capital letters. This scenario is even more depressing when we consider Leroy's frail health, his accident proneness, his inadequate health insurance, and Loretta constantly by his side.

Where Have You Gone, Hippocrates?

This may or may not be Dr. H. Blog, M.D., taunting Leroy unmercifully. The notoriously sickly and accident-prone Leroy seems to attract only the most sadistic practitioners of medicine. Compounding the poor man's misery is Loretta, staunchly by his side.

Where's The Beef?

Leroy, during one of his frequent visits to his personal physician, wonders, "Why should Loretta have all the fun?," and decides to engage in a little word play himself. Unfortunately, his weak demonstration of the homonymy of "beef" fails to impress Dr. H. Blog M.D.

Thou Still Unravish'd Bride Of Quietness

Apparently, Leroy's waiting time in Dr. H. Blog's office was much longer than the 45 minutes predicted by the insolent nurse yesterday. Whatever the case, Leroy seems to be in arrears, and has admitted as much to the doctor, who seems skeptical. If he only knew!

Where Have You Gone, Alfred Lord Tennyson?

Leroy is a frequent visitor to Dr. H. Blog's office, and no doubt a favorite target of Blog's crosseyed ichthyoidal nurse. Although Loretta tags along as usual to nag and insult her husband, the nurse deftly beats her to the punch by slathering on a healthy dose of sarcasm to get beneath Loretta's skin as well as Leroy's.

Revelations 13:18

Leroy is intimately familiar with hospital rooms and doctors' offices. If he's not there because of poor health or accident proneness, it's because of Loretta. She has inflicted a rather severe bruise in Leroy's side by trying to beat the fear of God into him, although given Leroy's fragile constitution, it probably only took a couple of discreet pokes. We see that Leroy's personal physician has changed his hair color.

Assume Euclid's Fifth Postulate

Leroy's infamous poor health has him back in the doctor's office. Naturally, Loretta tags along to nag and annoy Leroy. She interrupts Dr. H. Blog's examination by referring to a food group chart, all as a clever ruse for poking fun at Leroy's abominable physical shape, paying no attention, of course, to her own.

Ecce Homo

Today's Lockhorns Sunday is superb. In Panel One, Leroy proves he can match Loretta pun for pun, and insult for insult, both with the same remark, which, coincidentally, is The Lockhorns' second tribute to Gene Roddenberry within the month. Leroy isn't so happy in Panel Two, where his notoriously poor health has him in the doctor's office yet again. He indicates his indignity at having to cool his heels in the waiting room by skillful use of hyperbole. In Center Panel, both Leroy and the waiter are profoundly unimpressed by Loretta's declaration of her fondness for chocolate. Panel Four presents Loretta with yet another opportunity to invoke the cliche about men never asking for directions, only this time she freshens it up by citing Robert Frost's famous poem, thus keeping her skills at nagging Leroy honed to razor sharpness. My vote today goes to Panels One and Five in a dead heat. In the latter, Leroy arrives at a Levittown soiree fully prepared, as he carries a bottle of his favorite hooch, presumably, for this bizarre occasion, grain alcohol. For once, Loretta is supportive.

Apply To Self

Leroy, notoriously unhealthy and accident prone, spends much time in hospitals and doctors offices. Here, his personal physician takes great delight in reminding Leroy of the shortcomings of his medical insurance plan, in a possible attempt to get a condom joke past the censors.
